The Republic Of Maldives is a small island nation in South East Asia in the Arabian Sea of the Indian Ocean. It is South West of India and Sri Lanka. It consists of a chain of 26 atolls.
A visit to one of the islands enabled me to experience the beauty and the harshness of the climate. Beautiful blues of the water, yellow sand and green palms and other plants. It was when I was snorkelling with my underwater camera that I witnessed the result of climate events over the past twenty tears that had killed the coral. You can see the dead coral in many of the photos in the video.
The tides and undertow made taking photos difficult for me as it was a first but what an experience! There is work happening to grow new coral using various techniques but still there are fish and the occasional reef shark to see. The storms were wild, the temperature hot and the water was a delight.
The people working in the resort came from Sri Lanka and India often spending months away from family on the mainland and they were lovely people.
